La fool and Merci boucoup

7-13-2008

So American kids need to learn Spanish? Barack Obama seems to be suffering from another lapse in understanding basic geography. This is the United States of America, and people that are born in this country or are naturalized are "American Citizens". Why should Americans have to learn a language that isn't apart of their national identity as citizens? English has always been the language of this country, I forgot Obama isn't really that versed in common sense thinking. This is the first time I've ever heard a Presidential candidate say that the citizens of this country are "embarrassing", because of those that only speak "ONE" language. Are these people embarrassing the United States? That can't be it. The United States became a military, industrial, technological and economic superpower without it being a "bilingual nation". The only person I can think of that thinks the United States is "embarrassing" due to the citizens that aren't bilingual is DRUM ROLL PLEASE, "BARACK OBAMA". You see, Mr. Stupidity doesn't realize that the reason people who live in Europe, Asia, South America, and Africa speak more then one language is due to the simple fact that each continent mentioned has many different countries withing their borders. Obviously those countries have different languages. Actually, I am "embarrassed" that Obama couldn't figure that out. An American child should become bilingual because Obama says so? Could it be because Obama and liberals want Europeans to think America is "cool" like they are? The word "embarrassing" is amusing coming from a guy who can't string three sentences together without tripping on his words. I have a proposal for Mr. Obama. How about he let parents teach their kids whatever they want to teach them, and Obama learn the difference between Veterans Day and Memorial Day and how many states are in our country. Why is it that Obama wants Americans to emulate Europeans in regards to language? I think I have the answer. Obama is a liberal, and liberals love Europe. They think Europeans are more "cultured", "refined", and "sophisticated", then Americans are. He admitted that much already. John Kerry said four years ago that Americans "Have to pass the global test". When George Bush won reelection, liberals were actually apologizing to Europeans for Bush beating Kerry. Many liberal actors and actresses live in Europe. Johnny Depp called Americans "a bunch of stupid puppies". He lives in France. Liberals seem to be very open and comfortable trashing America on foreign soil especially in Europe, yet they don't have the guts to do it here. Why is that? Obama once again just stated what other liberals think. Oh I forgot to mention. Listen to the video very carefully. You will notice that Obama said "All WEEZ can say". Looks like the "articulate one" should focus on English first and be quiet.Obama himself has become "embarrassing".

Are you attending Blogging While Brown? I just read another blog stating that they have added several sessions (Green Party, Republican Party, Libertarian Party). Contacts for Ralph Nader and the Democratic party were also invited but did not respond. I would be curious to hear people like you represented there.

We all know that Obama is elitist. Remember I was reared in the DC area. I know the mindset of people in those regions and run in those circles. They think that their views are the only ones that matter. He has revealed time and time again how he feels about people not like him. This is no surprise.

Okay Tyrone, I know you don't like Obama, but whats your beef about learning a foreign language? Condoleezza Rice speaks 5 different languages. Mitt Romney speaks French, Bush speaks Spanish (not "W", but Jeb). I could go on and name plenty of American born politicians, and average folk who speak 2 or more languages. I myself speak just enough broken Spanish to avoid being "taken for a ride" in Tijuana.

RB states;"This is the first time I've ever heard a Presidential candidate say that the citizens of this country are "embarrassing", because of those that only speak "ONE" language"

Embarrassing or not, this is not the first attempt by a U.S. politician/government to stress the "importance" of foreign language and international studies. As an educator I receive numerous research, case study and informational packets. I remember this research/study done by The Committee for Economic Development from a few years ago. The content portion of the report is about 25-30 pages. I suggest you take a look at the Timeline (Appendix I starting on pg.40) that shows the numerous government initiatives (bills and title programs) to address the issue of foreign language education in the U.S., so much so, that some have even labeled foreign language education a "national security issue"!

“America’s leadership and national security rest on our commitment to educate and prepare our youth for active engagement in the international community. I call on schools, teachers, students, parents, and community leaders to promote understanding of our nations and cultures by encouraging our young people to participate in activities that increase their knowledge of and appreciation for global issues, languages, history, geography, literature, and the arts of other countries.”
-President George W. Bush for International Education Week, Washington, DC, November 13, 2001.-

January 5, 2006: President Bush announces the National Security Language Initiative, which aims to
help Americans develop advanced proficiency in critical
languages by starting language education in elementary
school, increasing the number of foreign language
teachers, and expanding immersion and study abroad
programs.

Tyrone I know you have a passionate disdain for Obama, and that's fine. But on this one you should cut him a little slack. There is absolutely nothing wrong with kids (or adults for that matter) learning another language.

As far as Obama being an elitist, I really could not agree. I will say that I kind of see where Jesse Jackson was coming from when he said that Obama seems to "talk down" to people.

What Obama was implying when he stated; "Europeans come over here and speak several languages, then we go over to Europe and can't speak the language", is that, we as Americans are viewed as isolationists, or even the stereotypical "Ugly American" if we're not willing to learn to speak other languages. But instead of framing his concerns to the audience in that manner, he used a more "down to earth" approach. Something more pleasant and humorist and quite frankly, easy to comprehend. Contrary to what some might say is an elitist persona, I just rack it up as an average, run of the mill politician.

I didn't see Tyrone havine "a beef" with learning another language, what MANY have a very legitmate beef with is the idiotic attempt by some to replace English with Spanish as the nation's "language of commerce and government."

Fact is, English is becoming the worldwide language of business.

What many others have a legitimate grievance against is Barack Obama's elitist harping on those he considers "average Americans," clinging to their guns, their religion and now their English language.

Well I hope enough people realize what a snake oil salesman Obama is.

I notice a lot of black oriented youtubers are coming to Michelle Obama's defense because she's black.

How come they didn't come to Hilary's Defense she's a woman too.
Oh wait she's whitey and a lot of black folks still are prejudiced as all get out!

Unlike them I don't see a difference between Hillary and Michelle Obama they're both leftists at their very core.

I'm not so colorstruck that I'll defend a person by virtue of them being black. I'll only defend someone if they're wrongfully accused or abused by the justice system or by prejudiced buffoons.

Though I have an extreme prejudice towards leftists.I wouldn't trust them if my depended on it!

"Soap Box Liberals". These people talk themselves silly and are wrong on everything they spew out of their mounths. I don't listen to liberals for ideas, I just listen to them to goof on them. It's actually better then watching comedy central.

P Allen"Okay Tyrone, I know you don't like Obama, but whats your beef about learning a foreign language?

Your realized the obvious allen when it comes to what I think about Barack Obama. You know I don't hide it.lol

P Allen "Condoleezza Rice speaks 5 different languages. Mitt Romney speaks French, Bush speaks Spanish (not "W", but Jeb). I could go on and name plenty of American born politicians, and average folk who speak 2 or more languages. I myself speak just enough broken Spanish to avoid being "taken for a ride" in Tijuana."

I noticed that the people that you mentioned are all repbulicans. Is that suppose to mean something to me Allen?
All I can say is good for Condi, Mitt, and Jeb. People in our country have a "choice" of what they can do Allen. I can speak some Korean. Does knowing another language adds value to my life as an American? The answer is no. My communication as always been in English since I could speak. The question that needs to be answered is "how does learning another language as an American benefits that person if he or she isn't going to use that language in another country? You mentioned Condi Rice. In her case, the languages she know are a benefit to her, because she is always traveling abroad. To me its seems Obama want parents to have their kids learn different languages so Europeans don't look down on us. If that is what he thinks, then that is a very dumb reason to learn a second language. Personally Allen, I refuse to learn a language just so I can be "like" or "respected" by others.

P Allen "Embarrassing or not, this is not the first attempt by a U.S. politician/government to stress the "importance" of foreign language and international studies"

There is a major difference between "stressing the importance" of something and "being embarrassed" Allen. If I was the president, I woiuldn't look down or be embarrassed at a citizen because he or she only spoke one language. Then again,I'm not a snob like Obama is.

P Allen "America’s leadership and national security rest on our commitment to educate and prepare our youth for active engagement in the international community."

Natonal Secrity? Call me old fashion ALlen, but I believe that border security and anti terrorism actions are way more important then learning a second language as an American.Seeing that America has been mostly if not overwhelmingly an English speaking country, that would mean that since it's conception, America has always survived with a "national security" risk, right Allen? We have a major problem in our country of citizens born in the United States and can't even speak proper English. The old saying "start with the basics" makes perfect sense.

P Allen " we as Americans are viewed as isolationists, or even the stereotypical "Ugly American" if we're not willing to learn to speak other languages. But instead of framing his concerns to the audience in that manner, he used a more "down to earth" approach. Something more pleasant and humorist and quite frankly, easy to comprehend. I will agree with you that Obama is a run of the mill politican" So we actually found common ground Allen lol.
How can our nation be viewed as "isolationist" when people in other countries call us "imperialists"? Our nation is constantly acussed of "medaling" in the affairs of other countries aka Iraq. So something isn't adding up here allen. The perception of us being isolationist is or problem. The idea that we have to do things in order to be "liked" by other countries is pretty sad. Friends will like you for who you. When you try to become something that your not in order to please others, you become phony and without substance. As I said before, if a person wants to learn a different language, that is that person's individual choice to do so Allen.

JMK English is in fact the language of business and international airline travel. Right now there are more people in China learning to speak English than we have people living here.

Most states require that students take a foreign language in HS. I have no problems with students doing that at all. But BO is once again showing his elitist side.

Agreed and there's absolutely nothing wrong and a lot right with people here, learning different languages, most business people, who deal internationally already do.

Once again, it's not so much what BO says, but how he says it.

As a member of the political class, he should understand that they are among the least of this nation's "lesser lights," and yet, like most Liberals, he seems to enjoy looking down on others.

The snake oil Obama is selling is called "CHANGE". He claims it will cure Americans of whatever ales them.I say no thanks I rather have a clear head and take some aspirin lol.

That's why China's standard of living is going to increase several times over vegas art guy. When those Chinese do come to America, they will basically hit the ground running already being able to conduct business in English.

Obama made a very Bill Clinton-like mistake by forgetting that every word is scrutinized in the new media world.

He's done that twice. When he was pandering to rich, white liberals in SanFran, he got caught looking down on poor whites as "bitter."

Well, hopefully, those are the last of his "macaca" moments.

Thanks for having the balls to say what many people think but are rarely allowed to say out loud in this lefty-media-driven world we live in today.

Thank you jalen. Liberals should never ever ever ever ever be taken seriously, they should be pointed at and laughed at. More people need to stand up to them instead of cowering to political correctness. I honestly believe the winds of change are blowing in the right direction. People are getting fed up with liberals and rightfully so. Besides everything they think up ususally 99.5% of the time is wrong.
