The affirmitve action appointee to Obama's Senate seat has been selected.

Today Governor Rod Blagojevich's appointed Roland Burris to fill Barack Obama's U.S Senate. Mr. Burris is 71 and was the former Secretary of State for the state of Illinois. Mr. Burris is also an American of African Descent. I guess the black clergy that made a stink about about "Obama's Senate seat being stolen" can rest a little easy now or maybe not. The leader of the U.S Senate Harry Reid said a few weeks ago when the Blago scandal became national news that he would not confirm any appointment for Obama's seat made by Blagojevich. So now enter congressman Bobby Rush also from Illinois who is also black and was a former member of the "Black Panthers". He also beat Obama in a 1990 congressional race. Bobby Rush said to the media not to "HANG or LYNCH" Burris, despite the bizarre circumstances of his appointment. Got to love liberals and their race coded language don't you? Don't "hang" or "lynch" Burris? This type of race code language is nothing new among liberals. Go back to 2004, Congressman William Lacy Clay of Missouri who is black said during the Federal Housing Enterprise Subcommittee hearings into the problems facing Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, "this hearing is about the political "LYNCHING" of Franklin Raines". I don't want to go off topic, but I want to illustrate one more example of race coded rhetoric by liberal Democrats. During the holiday of Dr. Martin Luther King in 2006 when the Republicans controlled congress, Hillary Clinton spoke at Canaan Baptist Church of Christ in Harlem. She told the congregation "The house is run like a "PLANTATION", You all know what I mean". This is what liberals do best. They use these types of words to stir up the racial pot in order to get what they want and to get a certain response from the people they say it to. Is it truly no wonder why I have such angst towards most liberals? People like Bobby Rush, William Clay, Charles Rangel and other liberals both black and white are just too pathetic for words to give them justice. Anyways Bobby Rush drew his racial line in the sand and dared Harry Reid not to cross it. As it looks right now Bobby's racial rhetoric isn't going to be able to help Roland Burris. I can't believe how foolish Bobby Rush is. Did he think by challenging Senator Reid, Reid was going to appoint Burris? Just two years ago, Democrats launched the talking point catch phrase against Republicans "the culture of corruption". If Reid confirmed any appointment for Obama's seat by a corrupt embattled Governor, how could Democrats in congress every criticize anyone on the issue of corruption ever again? I hope Rush isn't also naive enough to think he can get help from the Congressional Black Caucus to put pressure on Reid to change his mind, because that strategy would be doomed from the start. Rush wants to talk about their not being a black U.S Senator. This goes right back to the heart of Affirmative Action. I'm not a member of the Barack Obama kool aid drinking cult club. Obama beat an ultra weak candidate in Allen Keyes. Regardless of the outcome, Obama won the U.S Senate seat fair and square. By him winning it, it also means that he "earned it". Giving Obama's Senate seat to Roland Burris based on race is a slap in the face of qualified people in general. I'm not saying that Mr. Burris isn't qualified, he just may be. I strongly believe that his race should not be a factor pro or con on his nomination for it.

Yeah, I'm with you! Those darn Liberals always using "coded" language stirring up the racial pot. That darn Justice Clarence Thomas with his "high-tech lynching" accusations got him on the supreme court! That smug Bill O'Reilly with his "going on a lynching party" for Michelle Obama. Yep, that's the ole' liberal way....

yeah, right-

I knew this post was coming quick:)

The man may be qualified but will probably be tainted in the eyes of many just because of Blago IMHO. I think it would have been better to have a special election as suggested by different ones.

What do you think the Senate will do? I am not sure but I believe they said they would not approve any appointments from him. I do not know the procedure for this. Can they really do anything but scream? If they actually do have constitutional power to approve him or not will they reject him as promised? Neither choice will be good for them.

Once again allen, leave the sarcasm to me allen. I'm the professional not you,lol As fro O'Reily, as you said in a previous post. What you fail to understand with no big surprise allen is that liberals use race hinged words on purpose to get a response on a racial issue. You can try to deny it,but you will fail miserably trying. Maybe I should have said liberal POLITICIANS allen. This should clarify it. As for O'Reily, just because an independent talk show host says it who IS NOT A POLITICIAN allen, this is suppose to mean what? Notice everybody I mentioned were liberal democrat politicians allen. It looks like your going into 2009 just like you started 2008, wrong wrong and oh yeah wrong lol

I think so too. Not only wouild he have the taint of Blago the crook Pamela, but he will also have over his head the lingering doubt that the only reason he was selected wasn't because of his qualification but due to race too. I'm just waiting to see if Bobby is going to throw down the race card against Reid. That trick may work on a spin less Republican, but I doubt it will make Reid budge one bit. I think in the end there has to be a special election. Democrats in Illinois have to be fearing this scenario though. I see it like this Blago might be the the Democrats in Illinois what Bush was the Republicans in congress.

Reid said he won't confirm Blago's appointment. Blago's Lt. Governor said that he wouldn't appoint Blago's pick if Blago was impeached, and even Obama is saying that Blago's pick shouldn't be confirmed for his seat pamela. By Obama coming out and say this, Obama has NEUTRALIZED Bobby Rush's attempt to ram Burris appointment down the Senate's throat via the race card. Since Obama is "black" how can Rush use the race card on him, and he's the president elect pamela lol Reid does have the constitutional power pamela, it's just that it has been very rare that a majority leader of the Senate has ever had to use that power.I actually have to give credit to Obama on this one. I hope this won't become a habit though going into 2009,

Silly boy Tyrone, I said I agree with you. Of course Rush is using the race card. I know it, you know it and most importantly, BOBBY RUSH knows it!

The point of my post is that not only do "liberals" use it from time to time, your so called conservative buddies have done the same! Clarence Thomas did it, hell even Armstrong Williams played after being caught. It's a "Black Thang" ya' know...

I forgot to watch C-SPAN this morning. The Senate rejected him. Evidently he did not qualify because of certain rules. I need to read up on this.

Well Burris can always go out and buy a seat if he wants to be seated so badly pamela. Oh wait, trying to buy a seat is what created this whole mess in the first place isn't it?! lol lol lol I listened to Burris today, and he sounded like he wanted to cry. Reid is behind in the polls in his state of Nevada, and his seat is up for re election in 2010. He might want to worry about securing his own seat, before trying desperately to deny someone else another seat. I'm beginning to have second thoughts about him not being seated. I still don't like the premise of him being chosen as an affirmative action pick, but I think he will be defeated anyways in 2010, just because of the Illinois citizens backlash against Blago. A person should either win that Senate seat or be appointed based solely on merit and race should not be factor.

I doubt that anyone that is picked at this point to fill Obama's seat will have any respect. Why don't they just have an election? Is the governor going to have to continue picking people with no end in sight?

It looks like a novice, Leon Panetta, has been picked to be the head of the CIA. The Gupta doctor on CNN is going to be our surgeon general. I think that is how you spell his name. I don't have cable.

I have heard at least one talk show host that plans on actively campaigning against Reid in NV. It may not be needed at this point. I'm just so glad that he does NOT represent my state. God knows I mean that one. Maybe the voters will send him home so he can play with his grandchildren and leave us alone.

Just when I was about to agree with this post, you had to go muck it up with some nonsensical lecture about coded race words or something. Did we not forget how the GOP vs. Obama tried to replace old "uppity n*****r" phrase with "elite"? Absolutely disgusting. Have we forgotten that the other Rush (Limbaugh) has made a talk-radio career of this garbage?!?

Politics is full of damaging code words, and racial politics will forever be part of the American landscape. You'd think someone trying to write a political blog would be able to accept this and move on instead of fumbling it while trying to make a simple point ...

But even most Democrats are not pleased with Rush's stunt by trying to complicate the mess in Illinois with racial politics. My body literally flinched at his usage of "hang" and "lynch." Completely inappropriate.

And it's a shame that Burris feels it neccessary to stamp his legacy as a run-of-the-mill political opportunist. This whole mess makes him look like a patsy and a fool.
