The "coming out" 2012 political suicide of Barack Obama.

The media is all a buzz in reporting that Obama now supports gay marriage.

When did he never not support it? Obama's "coming out" officially on this issue didn't happen by accident. I believe 100% this was planned, and it all had to do with Joe Biden's announcement of his own support for gay marriage on Meet The Press this past Sunday. Everything with Obama is manufactured to one degree to another. Ever since the Biden segment with David Gregory on Meet The Press Sunday, the media had been pressing the White House to question whether Obama had "changed" his position on gay marriage from originally being not for it to now being in favor of it. Here again is another example why I have no need for the national media. The media has been reporting that Obama has had "evolving views" on the issue of whether to support gay marriage over the past few years. That is simply not true.  Back in 1996, when Barry first run for office in Illinois. The then state Senate candidate Barack Obama responded to a North Side gay magazine’s issues survey with a letter that includes his support for gay marriage in which he wrote
I favor legalizing same-sex marriages, and would fight effort to prohibit such marriages,” Obama wrote in the signed letter.
Maybe Obama was for gay marriage before he was against it. So now the question people are asking is why now? I can understand Obama wanting to pander to his gay and lesbian special interest base, but he already had their vote locked up in the first place, so there was nothing to have been gained by his now open support for same sex marriage. If anything, this announcement by Obama could actually do far more harm to him then help. His announcement came less then twenty four hours after voters in North Carolina in which he won in 2008 voted to amend their state's constitution to define marriage as being between one man and one woman. The Democratic National Convention is going to be held in Charlotte in a few weeks.  Obama's pro gay marriage announcement could be political suicide for other reasons. Many Christians voted for Obama including Catholics who were a key component in his victory. He's already ticked off traditional Catholics and other religious denominations with the contraceptive mandate in Obamacare and now this. Could this stance by Obama actually cause a split among black voters who identify themselves as Christians? It's no secret that most blacks do not embrace gay marriage. I would think it would be hard for black clergy this time around to tell their congregations to support Obama knowing his official position in supporting gays bastardizing the union of marriage. If this all was a grand scheme by Axlerod and Obama to create another distraction in an attempt to take attention away from Romney hammering Obama on the economy, they might have wised in the end they would have stuck to the economy instead. Mitt Romney has been open in his support and belief in traditional marriage. Obama's gamble may have actually handed Mitt something he desperately needed but couldn't do on his own.  Because Mitt supports traditional marriage and Obama now supports gay marriage, Obama just gave Mitt Romney the social conservative seal of approval. Romney's biggest hurdle was his inability to secure the voting block of social conservatives and evangelicals. Thanks to Obama, there is now a clear contrast and a clear choice for them. He unknowingly has just given Mitt Romney an energized conservative base to build on.

This has been disappointing news regarding the president's support of gay marriage over the past few days. As a black woman, I understand the historical importance of President Obama's election, however, I do not understand the President has been more vocal with other groups like gays and muslims. I will not vote for hm again because of most of the things you highlighted in your post regarding blacks. I'm tired of blacks getting pushed aside to go along with the greater good while our community continues to suffer.

I'm not impressed with the fluffy p.r. game of black family because as far as I'm concerned, the President doesn't care about black family's in general. The unemployment rate among blacks is the highest in 10 years. I'm just at a loss. He's not addressed it strongly as he's addressed gay issues. His silence and lackluster stance has made me reconsider voting for him.

I'm sick and tired of gays, a small minority getting what they want, while piggybacking and lying about being the new black civil rights movement. It's sickening to feel like I've been had by the Democratic party. I switched my political affiliation from Democrat to Independent 4 years ago and will not turn back now.

This time, I will not. It's been a hard decision for me. And no Romney isn't the answer either because he's a flip flopper as well, trying to pattern himself as a reliable and viable candidate. I don't support mormonism as well, no matter how many blacks they put in their commercials. Mormonism's history is stained with prejudice, bigotry, and lies.

I voted Democrat for a long time, now after doing a lot of maturing I've decided to become Independent too.

I have no beef with any religion, as long as they're being preached right. My beef with any religion would have to be if they are being perverted. Personally, I'm agnostic.

If I was asked how I would define marriage, my definition would be this:
Marriage is a commitment between two adult human beings, who are unrelated, who love each other. Notice I said unrelated; I do not favor of marriages of couples who are blood related. Well, that did not stop Eleanore and Franklin Roosevelt, despite that they were second cousins. Notice I said human beings; I do not support of anyone marrying their animals.

I heard them all, think of the children. I think of the children all the time. I think of the children who come from an abusive, and neglectful home, whether it is from a married or single parents.

I guess the reason why Obama suddenly supports same-sex marriages, when years ago he opposed it was because his approval ratings are slumping, and he is looking for the gay vote. Looking for the gay vote? Aren't most in the gay community Democrats?

I think he's trying to influence African American voters in the Maryland Gay Marriage Referendum.... because it'll lose here w/o a big shift in voting patterns of traditional-values African American voters.

IF that is his intention, I don't see how it could possible work Joe. I doubt blacks will all of a sudden support something they've spent their entire lives not supporting just because one man is now in favor of it. Most blacks are going to vote for Obama here in Maryland, but I doubt very much that they will vote against in favor of gay marriage in our state. Blacks in North Carolina voted 2 to 1 in favor of their state's constitutional amendment defining marriages as being between one man and one woman. I don't see that changing when it's our turn to vote.

Yes, he was going to get their vote anyways. Obama's "evolving" on the issue, had to do with him needing to raise some campaign cash.He had the gay vote, just not their donations.

This is the slippery slop that will happen if marriage is "redefined". If the union of marriage is redefined so that it says "two adult beings" so that it includes gays, well in the name of "equality" why is it that only two adults can marry and not more? Why should polygamists not have "equality" in not being allowed to marry? Going further, why shouldn't family members be allowed to marry? Wouldn't it be discriminatory if two adults who happen to be blood related just want to share their "love" for each other and not allowed to? Going even further. Let's say a guy is 18years old and a girl is 13 years old(5 year difference). They wouldn't be allowed to get married, but they are two human beings who love each other. In the name of equality, why could two human beings regardless of age not get married? What I am saying is that when marriage is altered for one special group, it will be impossible to say no in altering it yet again for other special group, and then marriage simply becomes so diluted, it means nothing when it's all said and done.

Democratic special interest groups have been pimping the black civil rights movement for their own gain for the last thirty years.

Illegal Aliens advocates try to connect their push for amnesty to the black civil rights movement.

Animal Rights advocates have tried to attach the suffering and treatment of animals in farms to that of how blacks were treated during slavery.

Democrats who do not want integrity in the voting process are trying to link states who require ALL CITIZENS to have an identification card in order to vote to that of Blacks being under Jim Crow Laws.

Every new cause to them is the "new civil rights" movement or somehow connected to the black civil rights movement. I refuse to let these people try and play for for a fool. Gays and Marriages isn't about "Civil Rights", it's about "Special Rights", because any gay or lesbian person can get married. They can get married to members of the opposite sex like everybody else. There is no discrimination. This is all to do about altering marriage to accommodate their alternative lifestyle. That is why the use of the word "equality" pisses me off to no end.

I have a question. Why are gays fighting so hard to get married, then turn around and get divorced? Rosie O'Donnell, Melissa Ethridge, Hilary Rosen, etc. Wasn't Ellen engaged to that blonde actress who changed her mind at the last minute and decided she wasn't gay, and instead married a man and had a kid? Lmao! They're all divorced before a gay marriage law has even been written.

That's why this gay marriage "movement" is stupid.

This is also not a Civil Rights Movement issue either. Gays can hide or stop being gay whenever they want. Blacks can never stop or hide being black. Blacks will always be black and judged by the color of their skin till the day they die. Gays can go back to being straight when they get tired of being gay or judged. Gays cannot compare themselves to women either. Women can never stop or hide being a woman. A gay man can stop pretending to be a woman when he gets ready to. A gay woman can stop pretending to be a man when she gets ready to. In other words - gay is an option - you don't have to be gay. Gay can be stopped or hidden whenever the gay person wants to. Being black or a woman can NEVER be hidden. Gays will have to go through a few hundred years of slavery and be assassinated in the streets before anyone cares about their "movement". I also don't recall any gays helping blacks get freed from slavery, so there's no reason for blacks to help gays onto the Civil Rights Movement bandwagon because their issues are nothing like blacks.

I never liked Obama. Didn't vote for him in 2008 and won't vote for him now. I'm a black woman and I knew he would play the race and class cards before he even got into office. That was a no-brainer. However, I didn't see the gay card coming.

I find it very hard to believe that Michelle Obama's old black mamma, who is probably a white hat wearing, Bible thumping, praying for the sick shut-in's, "Take me to the water" singing, First Chicago Baptist Church member for 65 years, is for gay marriage. I don't believe Obama is for gay marriage either. No real Christian who has studied the word of God would be for gay marriage. It's obvious Obama is not Christian, because he doesn't do anything that's written in the Bible. I think this is just to get the gay vote that he lost a few years ago when he said he was going to do all this stuff for gays, but didn't once he got in there. Gays are stupid if they believe him this second time around, and so are blacks if they vote him in this time as well.

If you're dating someone for 4 years and they haven't done anything in the relationship that you've asked for, why on earth would you stay with them for another 4 years?

I'll vote for him again simply because he's the best person for the job though I disagree with him on his stance for supporting gay marriage. I believe it's a political move knowing that he's a moral man he as just slipped up as a traditional Christian. We all know what the true definition is of marriage. Man and woman not two adults. It's a law created by God not man, so those of us who are trying make the argument by sounding intellectual are only fooling themselves and taking a stance on there own sexual preference or they're in league with over the top liberal ideologies. Keep in mind there are far worse things when it comes to the politics in this country so I can't sacrifice the presidents chances out of anger and allow a numbskull to run the most powerful country in the world where I live and pay taxes where my people continue to suffer..

It's wrong he did it as a political move. I'll vote for him again because we could do no worse. Man and woman a law by God not by man period. Stop the madness and creating a new definition of marriage. If you don't vote for him that's over the top and you allow the over conservatives to win because keep in mind many are racist! Do not cut off your nee to spite your face out of prejudice. Just disagree and keep it moving because there are more issues to be concerned about other than the presidents stance on gay marriage.
