Robert Griffin III, the man who plays by his own rules.

Rob Parker is a black sports analyst for ESPN.  He was recently suspended for making some very personally negative remarks about the Washington Redskin's Quarterback Robert Griffin III. Parker's comments weren't about RG3's football ability or lack there of. His comments were pointed at RG3, because RG3 doesn't really focus on his skin as being a quarterback. He doesn't go out to play in order to be the greatest black quarterback ever. He goes out and plays to be the best quarterback he can be. A few weeks ago, RG3 told Jim Corbett of USA Today

"I am an African-American in America," . "That will never change. But I don't have to be defined by that. ... We always try to find similarities in life, no matter what it is so they're always going to try to put you in a box with other African-American quarterbacks -- [Michael] Vick, [Cam] Newton, Randall Cunningham, Warren Moon. Warren Moon and Doug Williams really didn't run that much. That's the negative stereotype when it comes to African-American quarterbacks, that most of us just run. Those guys threw it around. I like to think I can throw it around a little bit."

The people RG3 was referring to are people in the sports media and those who try to make him out as being the "great black hope" in the QB position. The sports media is no different then the national media. They are mostly liberals, and they try to present a racial angle to stories whenever possible. RG3's comments didn't sit well with Rob Parker. On the ESPN show First Take, Rob Parker referred to RG3 as a "corn ball brother" and "not one of us". He went on to highlight that RG3's fiance is white and that there were rumors that he might be a dreaded republican.

Rob Parker is an idiot who doesn't even know he's an idiot. I never met RG3, but I can tell by how he carries himself and conducts himself  that he has a good head on his shoulder. He's a Christian man who was brought up in a military family. The main issue with Parker's angst towards RG3 is that RG3 is not allowing himself to be promoted by certain members in the sports media in trying to elevate him based on the color of his skin. Back in 2003, Rush Limbaugh was fired from ESPN for making a remark about the media elevating then quarterback Philadelphia Quarterback Donovan McNabb, because "they wanted to see a black quarterback succeed" even though McNabb was overrated.

Rob Parker's comments about RG3 unknowingly to him and  to the rest of the sport media has vindicated what Rush Limbaugh said eight years ago. As for RG3's white fiance. All I have to say about that is that I wonder does Rob Parker consider Barack Obama's father as being a "cornball brother", because his dad was attracted to women who where white. Then again., now that I think about it Ann Dunham(Obama's Mother) was reported as mostly being attracted to black men. I wonder does Mr. Parker consider Dunham as a reverse cornball sister? I've always wondered how liberals are so naive that  to buy into the imaginary stereotype that most black republicans have white girlfriends. I'm trying to figure out how they came up to with that conclusion. I do not know what RG3's political views are, nor do I really care. If he is a Republican, so what? Parker calls Griffin a cornball brother, because there are "rumors" that he is a republican. My question is where is it written in the being black handbook guide that blacks are suppose to belong to the Democratic Party to validate their blackness.  It's borderline retarded thinking. The backlash against Rob Parker has been fierc since he made his ill fated remarks. ESPN suspended Parker for only 30 days. I find that shocking and absurd. Parker's comments were much more serve then anything Limbaugh said but since Rush Limbaugh was a white conservative, it was only logical to ESPN that he would lose his job with them and that the black liberal Rob Parker would be allowed to keep his. Parker has since come out and issued an apology for his comments. If Parker didn't receive the blow back from his comments about RG3, he wouldn't have issued a fake apology.

WRONG Tyrone. Limbaugh "RESIGNED" and offered no apology.

And what do you mean by "overrated?" I find the term to be relative to an individuals player preference. Neither you nor Rush Limbaugh "rates" NFL players for the league, the NFL does that themselves. Moreover, although he never won a Super Bowl, McNabb and the Eagles were NFC East Division Champions four straight years.

First off, Rob Parker's comments were waaaaayyy beyond stupid. That being said, what makes Limbaugh's comments any less severe? (p.s. I think you meant to write, "much more severe than anything...". Both made stupid racially charged comments. So what's your reason for defending Limbaugh and basically vouching for his stupid comments? First you "FALSELY" state that Limbaugh was fired, you make no mention that Limbaugh offered no apology, then you go on to defend his stupid statement.

If you really think what Limbaugh said is pertinent, then wouldn't it apply to Robert Griffin also? Donovan McNabb never said the media was attempting to "elevate" him because of his skin color... LIMBAUGH SAID THAT! And why would you go on to attack McNabb as being "overrated?" He might not have been the greatest player ever to play the game, yet he fairs far above most who have.

You also mentioned that RG3 was a Christian brought up in a military family. That's good and fine. As for McNabb, I'm not sure of his religious affiliation, but I do know that he attended a Catholic High School, and then Syracuse University, which maintains close ties with The United Methodist Church. McNabb also appears to have a solid upstanding, charitable, respectable lifestyle, and family.

Here again you "shill" simply on the side of conservatism. Your essay is filled with misrepresentations, distorted ideas, non factual errors, and, you purposely excluded certain facts that would have provided context that would counter most of your assertions. What's bothering you Tyrone? Your ideological partisanship is really clogging up your brain. Is it that President Obama won a second term? Get over it man before it takes over you...

Wrong yourself allen. Limbaugh was given the option to either resign or be fired. In essence, he was FORCED out, resigning was just the candy coated way of being fired.

p allen "And what do you mean by "overrated?" "

The definition of overrated is "A term used to describe something that gets more hype and credit than it's actually worth. Did that help you allen?

p allen "I find the term to be relative to an individuals player preference. Neither you nor Rush Limbaugh "rates" NFL players for the league, the NFL does that themselves. "

Wrong again allen, sports commentators, writers and analysts give their opinions on player's abilities, that is their job. Limbaugh was hired by ESPN to give his opinion on football. Sports writers and networks rate NFL teams ever week in the power rank ratigns based on their observation of what they believe what is a team's strength or weakness.

p allen "Moreover, although he never won a Super Bowl, McNabb and the Eagles were NFC East Division Champions four straight years."

Is McNabb going to the hall of fame allen? Joe Flacco has lead the Ravens to the play offs for 5 straight years, so what are you saying allen. The reality is that McNabb was never mentioned in the company of the elite QB's like Payton Manning, Tom Brady etc. Where is McNabb at now? He was cut by the Eagles, tell me why that was allen. He landed in Redskins, and benched, why was that allen? Also, what happened when he went to the Vikings?

p allen "First off, Rob Parker's comments were waaaaayyy beyond stupid."

Wow, you actually spoke out again a fellow lib for saying something stupid, there's some hope for you yet allen, congrats.

p allen "That being said, what makes Limbaugh's comments any less severe? (p.s. I think you meant to write, "much more severe than anything...". Both made stupid racially charged comments."

The difference is that Limbaugh never made a racially charged comment about Donovan McNabb as opposed to Rob Parker doing so with RG3 allen. Again, Limbaugh's reference was directed at the media NOT McNabb. Limbaugh never said anything about blacks not being able or should not play the QB position.

p allen "So what's your reason for defending Limbaugh and basically vouching for his stupid comments? "

I am not defending Limbaugh, but I am highlighting the fact that he was correct. Right is right and wrong is wrong allen, and the reason why I mentioned Limbaugh is because Rob Parker's remarks validated Limbaugh.

p allen "First you "FALSELY" state that Limbaugh was fired, you make no mention that Limbaugh offered no apology, then you go on to defend his stupid statement. "

Again, did Limbaugh have the option of staying with ESPN after his remarks, yes or no allen. If my boss tells me I am going to be fired for something I did but he will give me the option to resign instead, of course I am going to resign. Limbaugh did not have the option of staying allen, that is what you do not want to acknowledge.

p allen "You also mentioned that RG3 was a Christian brought up in a military family. That's good and fine. That's also great allen, but I never said nor implied anything negative about Donovan McNabb. Limbaugh's comments were about the media hyping the ability of McNabb's playing ability. Rob Parker's comments were directly aimed about Robert Griffin III the man, and his racial identity. That's the difference. I can't believe you don't see that, then again I can.

I take the side of common sense allen. Since conservatism is rooted in common sense, I suppose they are interchangeable.

p allen "Your essay is filled with misrepresentations, distorted ideas, non factual errors, and, you purposely excluded certain facts that would have provided context that would counter most of your assertions."

LOL, the only repute you presented so far is saying that Limbaugh resigned instead of being fired. People who know the situation with Limbaugh knew he was given the OPTION of resigning but he was still forced out. As for McNabb, he was overrated, and where is he now? So no distortion just the facts.

p allen "What's bothering you Tyrone? Your ideological partisanship is really clogging up your brain."

The thing that is clogging your brain allen is your inability recognize facts when they are presented to you. For starters, how can I be a partisan, when I am not a registered member of any political party? Don't you have to be a member of a party in order to be a "partisan", think McFly, think. What I said about RG3 is so what if he is a Republican, that's not being a partisan, it's just asking a question.

p allen "Is it that President Obama won a second term? Get over it man before it takes over you..."

What exactly does RG3, Donovan McNabb and Rob Partker have to do with Barack Obama allen? I'm confused on that one to be honest. Obama was re elected big whoop, he has nothing to do with this story. It seems like you are the one obsessed over Obama for the mere reason that you brought him up, oops.

Pure speculation Tyrone. Look at it this way, ESPN knew who Rush Limbaugh was before they hired him. It's entirely possible that Limbaugh was asked to apologize to McNabb, the NFL, the fans, and the media he attempted to indict, and he refused. Barring the semantics and the speculations, the record shows he resigned. The "FACT" is, when you write something and mince terms, you "MISLEAD" the reader. A person reading your statement would think Limbaugh was thrown under the bus for no reason at all.

Limbaugh offered this statement at the time; "Therefore, I have decided to resign. I appreciate the opportunity to be a part of the show and wish all the best to those who make it happen".

Since then I haven't heard any statement from him stating that he was "fired." The history books will never show that Richard Nixon was "fired" because the facts show he resigned. If resigning under pressure can be relative to being fired, I guess Sarah Palin was.... FIRED?

CB;"Again, did Limbaugh have the option of staying with ESPN after his remarks, yes or no allen".

How in the "sam hill" do you know???? Did Limbaugh call you up and explain what happened? Did he tell you they gave him no option? Did he tell you he offered to apologize and they refused? Did you speak with any of the exec's at ESPN? You're just assuming Tyrone. You don't know how ESPN and Limbaugh came to their decisions. You're just writing your "SLANTED AND BIAS" opinion.

Like I said before, they knew Limbaugh's background of making controversial racially charged statements. Yet, they hired him. Frankly, I don't know either how they came to their final decision to part ways. All we both know for sure is that officially.... HE RESIGNED!

Huuuuh?? Limbaugh said; "I think the media has been very desirous that a black quarterback do well. They're interested in black coaches and black quarterbacks doing well. I think there's a little hope invested in McNabb and he got a lot of credit for the performance of his team that he really didn't deserve".

First off, what media was he talking about?? Second, (which fly's directly in the face of your assertion) Limbaugh didn't say it was "desirous" because McNabb was tall. Nor was it because he was smart, ugly, left handed, bald, or could dance a jig. NOOOOOOO! He said because he was "BLACK!" (aka his racial identity)

Limbaugh's comments weren't the same in that, his were about the McNabb's ability. Parker's comments were about Griffin's personality. But don't even try to tell me that both Parker and Limbaugh were not "identifying" each player based on the players race.

p allen "Pure speculation Tyrone. Look at it this way, ESPN knew who Rush Limbaugh was before they hired him."

lol, you just shot a whole in your own argument allen. If ESPN knew what they were getting when they hired Limbaugh as you said, why would they in your opinion have asked Limbaugh to apologize for his comments? It's a contradiction.

p allen "It's entirely possible that Limbaugh was asked to apologize to McNabb, the NFL, the fans, and the media he attempted to indict, and he refused. "

Ah, why would have Limbaugh needed to apologize, when his comments weren't directed at "THE MEDIA" and not McNabb, the NFL nor the fans? This bring up a great point. People who are supposedly all upset over Limbaugh didn't even know what he actually said. All they knew was that it was Rush Limbaugh who made, so by that alone his comments had to somehow have been racist again McNabb. It was misguided anger bias on their bias without caring the have the facts of what he actually said. With Parker, his comments were known who they were directed to.

p allen "Barring the semantics and the speculations, the record shows he resigned. The "FACT" is, when you write something and mince terms, you "MISLEAD" the reader.

You are so fake allen. You are the one who tried to misguide people when you harped on Palin resigning without acknowledging the circumstances behind why she resigned. Look up the term "forced resignation" then get back to me on it. You are the only one fooling anyone allen, it's yourself you are fooling, deceiving etc. It still amusing though.

p allen "A person reading your statement would think Limbaugh was thrown under the bus for no reason at all. "

You're the one who is completely underestimating the intelligence of my readers allen. News flash, many of my readers work for living and work in corporate America. Trust me, they know what a forced resignation is. You seem to be the only one who isn't up on it.

p allen "How in the "sam hill" do you know???? Did Limbaugh call you up and explain what happened?

Of course, he sent me a text message on the hidden EIB text network. This is why you shouldn't challenge me allen or doubt me. This is the story from the NY Times, Oct 2, 2003.

http://www.nytimes.com/2003/10/02/sports/football/02limbaugh.html

This is what the president of ESPN George Bodenheimer said about Limbaugh's resignation.

"We believe he took the appropriate action to resolve this matter expeditiously."

So obviously ESPN did not have Limbaugh's back, and even the president himself said that Limbaugh resigning was the right thing and no doubt that behind closed doors Bodenheimer made it clear to Limbaugh what his "options" were. By the way allen, the word expeditiously, means fast. He wanted Limbaugh and the fake controversy gone as fast as humanly possible.

I think the majority of the American media is more obsessed with race or ethnic background than with an individual's performance.

I have to wonder if the Japanese media is more obsessed with national pride, when one of their athletes come over and play in the Major Leagues? Here in Seattle, for a long time, we have Japanese fans in the stands and the Japanese media fawning over then Mariner player Ichiro and other Japanese athletes who played for the M's as if he and the others were rock stars. It's the same thing with Hideo Nomo when he debuted for the Dodgers.

When Hideo Nomo came about, I heard from the media if MLB is ready for an Asian players. What does his race has to do with his performance?

The topic is Parker's stupidity, not Limbaugh's. Parker has what is known as the crab syndrome. For those of you that have never seen crabs in a container, if one crab climbs to the top others will cling on and try to pull it back down to their level. Until Parker and others that think the way he does realize that we are individuals, not clones, many of us will always be on the bottom. Parker's comments were filled with profiles and sterotypes. Braids are not exclusive to urban areas, many other cultures around the world have braided hair. Griffin went through years of physical and mental torture, pushing and sacrificing himself so that he could be successful while people like Parker were standing on the corner being a good BROTHER, showing their blackness(what ever that means). Griffin owes nothing to anyone. Parker spoke from what is in his heart, he is stuck on stupid.

Of course. They are obsessed with race or ethnic background if the person is a minority and is a progressive, then they will do everything to promote that person in the best positive light. Yesterday, Tim Scott was sworn in as the first black Senator to serve from the Deep South since reconstruction, yet the media said nothing. If Scott was a Democrat, then that would have been the story all day.

Padzilla "I have been a fan of RG111 since he played at Baylor. Being from Dallas and a Cowboys fan, I find it hard to root for his team though. But the kid can play!"

I was hoping the Cowboys would win that game Padzilla. For Romo to throw an interception when the game was on the line, I was like ah come on man!! Not a skin's fan but I will be somewhat supporting RG3 as well. They are gong to have their hands full against the Seahawks come Sunday.

Joe Conservative "Go Redskins!

lol, the Redkins are going to go alright Joe, right to Seattle, let's see what happens. As for Flacco, there is no way the Raven's are going to get rid of Flacco after making it to the playoffs for the 5th straight year. Most people believe that the problem with Flacco's performance had more to do with the antique play calling of the former Offense Coordinator Cam Cameron. So we'll see going forward was he the truly the problem.

I heard about Tim Scott and NAACP President Ben Jealous made an appearance on CNN and said that he's a Republican and Republican's do not believe in civil rights. Hence his name, I think Ben is envious of Scott.
As one poster said "If the racist NAACP hates Senator Scott then Senator Scott will do a fine job in the U.S. Senate." lol.

Joe Conservative-"Go Redskins!"
I'm rooting for the Seahawks this Sunday. Russell Wilson and RG3 are both great quarterbacks, so it will be a great game.
